Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Practitioner

Gerard is a Mindfulness practitioner that has a personal practice of meditation and mindfulness and is committed to using these skills personally as well as helping others learn the skills.

Mindfulness is the experience of the mind/body states that arise in the present moment. By practicing Mindfulness you begin to realize the importance of understanding the mind/body states as well as everything in life is impermanent.

It is a cornerstone of a Mindfulness practice to approach life’s circumstances with a non-judging mind along with an attitude of acceptance. Self-compassion is another cornerstone, by approaching the self with acceptance and compassion we become mindful.

Gerard has the conviction that the practice of meditation and mindfulness are means for coping skillfully with the challenges of life and our own emotions. He also had the life experience or realization that when pain is present, resisting the experience or making judgments about it increase suffering.

It is important to honor differences among us, examining one’s reactions in the face of difference, and recognizing the suffering that can arise when one does not acknowledge the life experiences of people who have been marginalized historically and systemically in our society. The underlying understanding is that all apparent differences are essentially an oneness of all beings.
